2010 Craig Hewitt Chapter "Modeler of the Year"

We didn't really promote the Modeler of the Year in 2009, but this year we are going to stay on top of things. Steve Keck and Keenan Chittester will be keeping track of points, so if you have any questions, please get in touch with one of them.

Contrary to popular belief, any member is eligible to win the Modeler of the Year. Past winners include Craig Pierce, Jim Stute and Steve Collins, and they are eligible to earn points this year also, so you know the competition is tough. However, there are plenty of opportunities to obtain points. One of the first things is attending the meetings. You get a point for that. The second is bringing a finished model (or models) to a meeting. You get 2 points for that. Now before you start thinking about bringing everything on your shelf to the next meeting, you need to understand that you only get 2 points whether you bring 1 model or 100 models to the meeting. So sign the attendance sheet when it is passed around, and if you bring a model be sure and write down your info on the Model Sign-In Sheet

If you win the monthly meeting contest, you get another 2 points. Steve Keck has come up with some great ideas for the monthly contests which are listed below. The January contest was won by Kevin Wenker, so he has vaulted into the lead for this year with 5 points (1 for attendance, 2 for bringing a model, and 2 more for winning the contest).

Schedule of Monthly Contests

• February - "Sci-Fi"
• March - "Simple and Elegant" Any model with fewer than 30 parts - the fewer, the better.
• April - "Silk Purse" Any subject from a kit that is known to be a problem. Bring the instructions and be prepared to explain your improvements.
• May - "Out Of The Box" IPMS rules, and don't forget to bring your instructions.
• June - "Rule Britannia" Anything from the British Empire.
• July - "Summer Cruise Night" Convertibles, open cockpits, open topped AFVs, boats, etc.
• August - NO CONTEST because we will be preparing for and talking about the National Convention. You may still bring in a model to display and receive 2 points.
• September - "Weathered Hulks" Best weathering.
• October - "Scratch Building" Best model involving scratchbuilding.
• November - "Prototypes and Famous Firsts" Any model depicting a prototype or the first in a series.
• December - "Monograms Golden Age" Any Monogram kit manufactured from 1945 through 1980.
